until next year Domo
As the Domo Season wraps up, I find myself feeling a bit melancholic. I've been DJing at these Domo events since before the pandemic, and recently I stumbled upon a memory from over six years ago—me spinning at Domo alongside Felipe (Trax On Wax). Each Domo Season, I dedicate a significant part of my life to supporting First Friday. What I’ve realized is that it’s not just my passion for DJing, nor the beautiful weather that draws me in; it’s the connection I have with so many friends in Modesto. I cherish the chance to share news, shake hands, and meet the loved ones of my friends. Most importantly, I get to reconnect with my Domo Family, which makes it all worthwhile.
Since I started DJing at Domo, our community has really grown. We went from having just one DJ to inviting more friends to join in and dance, and now we have a dedicated group that truly enhances the experience. It all began with BBoys and DJs playing our blend of fun family friendly music right on the streets of Downtown Modesto—that’s what it’s all about! Breakers like Livic, Enock, and Imax would come out to session, along with poppers and dancers like Tekboi and Grim Boogie. The first DJs I invited to Domo First Fridays were long-time friends, and as the seasons passed, I reached out to more of my DJ buddies to join us.
About three years ago, Modesto Skates started showing up at Domo, and around that same time, our friend Zeps (Rhymosaurs) became a regular fixture. Also, during this period, our good friend Scott, known as “The Fly Lord,” began setting up and painting his bugs, mushrooms, and butterflies at First Friday. All of these elements began to fall into place perfectly.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who makes Domo possible—the dedicated staff, loyal patrons, and especially the incredible artists and performers. You transform this into more than just a typical street vendor event; you create a vibrant space for joy, art, and culture to flourish. Thank you for being a part of this journey!
