The ILL LIST Poetry Slam is the most highly anticipated and most prestigious poetry slam competition in California! Founded in 2004 by Greg Edwards and Sam Pierstorff, this annual, sell-out performance poetry event has drawn some of the most renown and competitive slam poets in the country from Rudy Francisco (The Tonight Show) to Neil Hilborn who boasts the most viral poem on YouTube as well as America's Got Talent Winner Brandon Leake, London-based poet Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan, and Dallas, Texas' first Poet Laureate and HBO Deaf Poetry Jam icon Joaquin Zihuatanejo to name a few.
Featuring a fresh line-up of renowned spoken word artists, national and international slam poetry champions, many of whom have appeared on such shows as Verses & Flow, NPR’s Snap Judgment, Button Poetry, and elsewhere in the media, The ILL LIST is an entertaining and inspiring night of performance poetry meant to entertain, educate, and inspire!
Randomly selected judges from the audience award points to poets based on the strength of their poems and the quality of their performance. Audience participation is essential. Laughter, tears, applause, and inspiration are sure to be had by all who attend this world-class literary boxing match. Come be inspired!
